Visibility is key when it comes to selling on Etsy. With over 9 million listings, standing out and getting your products in front of potential buyers can be challenging. That’s where SEO and keyword research come in. By utilizing tools to help you rank higher in search results, you’ll drive more traffic and ultimately increase sales for your shop. In this post, I’ll share my top picks for keyword research tools outside of Etsy to help you find the best keywords for your listings.
Marmalead

Marmalead is among the top preferred SEO tools for Etsy sellers. After signing up for this tool, it was easy to understand why. Unlike other keyword research tools that gather data trends from previous months or years, Marmalead is able to predict future keyword trends. This allows you to see if your new product will gain some traction in the next 30 days based on potential search volume of a particular keyword.
In addition to that bit of magic, Marmalead has other useful features, such as a keyword comparison tool, which allows you to see the search volume, competition, and engagement of up to four keywords at a time, an auto-updating trending keyword list, and other tools to help you brainstorm new products.

Marmalead does offer a free trial for up to 14 days. This alows plenty of time to help you get acclimated with their tool and all of their powerful features.
Alura

Alura is a simple and powerful keyword and product research tool. What I enjoy most about Alura is their keyword rating and similar keyword results. These are extremely helpful when you’re experiencing a keyword block and are struggling to come up with keywords or phrases for your listings. Their keyword rating gauges the performance of the keyword based on a combination of search volume, competition, and conversion rate.
They also offer other analytics tools that can be helpful when evaluating your own shop or comparing to similar ones. Like Marmalead, they offer a listing optimization tool to help you improve things such as SEO in your listing titles and descriptions. What they have above Marmalead is a browser extension, making it seamless to research keywords without ever having to leave Etsy.

There are three plans available, which include their free, growth, and professional plan. The growth plan starts at just $19.99/month, but you may be able to find a limited time offer occasionally for $9.99/month.
Free Trial
Alura allows you to use their platform for free with limited access to their features.
eRank

As an Etsy seller, it’s highly unlikely that you haven’t read, heard, or come across this keyword research tool. With its affordable basic plan, it’s no wonder why many sellers use this tool. It has similar features to the tools above including keyword comparison, competitor research, listing optimizer, and the ability to save keyword lists.
While there are features eRank has that others don’t, such as their rank checker, I find them to be clunky and not very useful. There are, however, unique tools like their Pricing Calculator and Category Checker that I tend to use often.

Pricing
They offer three plans including a basic, pro, and expert level. The basic starting at just $5.99/month.
Free Trial
eRank does have a free version that provides limited use of its features, which restricts your searches to 5 per day. However, it does reset the very next day.
Takeaways
Even though using Etsy’s search bar is still the most simple and cost-free way to conduct keyword research, these SEO and keyword research tools can provide additional insight you wouldn’t get otherwise. While no single tool triumphs over the others, using these tools together can certainly help your listings to rank better on Etsy. However, if you are looking try just one, I’d recommend Alura based on its user-friendly interface, available tools and features, and research effectiveness.
