With my excitement for the new multiplayer game that’s supposed to launch this year, I knew I wanted to go with a Killer Klowns from Outer Space theme for Halloween.

If you’re creative, like me, you’ll immediately fall in love with this movie because it’s so out-of-the-box. It’s as silly as it sounds, and does not disappoint with imaginative characters, weapons, and scenes. It has anything and everything you could possibly think of, or not, when it comes to alien clowns taking over earth.

The film inspired me to bring that to life and share it with fellow fans and younger generations in my neighborhood. What started as a sketch of baby Killer Klowns in a life-size popcorn box, among other iconic props—from acid pies to cotton candy cocoons—turned my front lawn into a mini Killer Klowns from Outer Space world.

Materials Used

DAS air-drying modeling clay has been my go-to for creating head replicas. A little goes a long way and it’s easy to use.

Here are some tips I’ve learned while using this clay:

  1. Have a spray bottle filled with water handy to keep your surface moist and avoid cracks.
  2. Too much water can also form cracks, so be cautious.
  3. Using a paintbrush and making a slurry out of water and pieces of clay can be used as an adhesive when adding to your sculpture.
  4. Use armatures of metal or wood to save on clay.
  5. Foam balls or a foam skull can be a great base.
  6. Work in layers.

The sculpture took about about three days of sculpting, drying, and painting. A coat of Epoxy resin was applied to the final product to preserve it while outside and also gave it a wet and slimy appearance.
